Laughter Yoga Wednesday, November 28th 5:30-6:15pm by donation
When is the last time you had a good laugh? In a Laughter Yoga class, we use brief laughter games to stimulate and trigger laughter. The games can be done seated or standing and moving around. We start off "faking it," and through eye contact and childlike playfulness, it soon turns into real and contagious laughter. The most important outcome is to let go, relax, and have fun with the experience. This triggers the “feel good” chemicals to release into the body. By the time the session ends, the anxiety, stress, and burdens of the day all dissolve in the peals of laughter and fun. Remember: Laughter is the Best Medicine.

Chakra Opening Workshop Saturday, Dec 1st 2:00-4:00pm $25
This workshop will explore the theory of the chakra system including how it is related to the physical body as well as energetic sheaths, and how yoga practices can help to keep these energetic centers open to promote healing and health. We will move through asanas (physical postures), apply different mudras (hand positions/symbols), and practice pranayama exercises (breath-work) to help release any energetic blockages and allow prana (vital energy/Chi) to move freely through the body.

Pilates Fundamentals w/ Kimberly Moscatello, December 2, 12:30-2:30 $18
Learn the history and principles of one of the oldest and most widely practiced exercise methods in the world. Time will be spent learning the fundamentals of Pilates movement and exercises at different strength levels for a safe and effective individual practice. Materials and resistance bands will be provided. Please bring a mat and full sized towel.
Kimberly Moscatello has been practicing Pilates since 2003 and graduated from the Regeneration Institute of Pilates in 2010 with a 100-hour teaching certification. Recognized by Pilates Academy International, her training includes beginner thru advanced classical matwork and props as well as working with prenatal/postnatal and special injury clients. The mission of her company "Pilates Within Reach" is to show that Pilates can change, rework, and benefit any body regardless of shape, size, or age.

Asana Workshop Sunday, Dec 9 1:00-3:00pm $25
Come learn to deepen your practice with this 2 hour asana workshop! In class, we don't always have time to work on refining certain more challenging poses. This workshop will focus on common problems and mistakes that can cause injury. Using props, you will be shown the proper alignment of many main poses, as well as some alternative suggestions for injuries or ailments. This will not be a "flow" class, but will be an open discussion. The instructor will attempt to address any poses or problems you may have as the class progresses. Anyone at any level will benefit from this workshop.

The last 10 days have been a whirlwind for the Jersey Shore and all along the northeastern coast. When driving through your neighborhood and town or watching the news it is shocking to see the devastation that occurred during and after Hurricane Sandy. As we process what happened and deal with the sadness, we are also grappling with the significant changes to our normal routines. Across the community people have lost loves ones, theirs homes, jobs; and others are dealing with the changes that come along with living without electricity, opening homes to family and friends, having children out of school; and we are all working nonstop to restore and rebuild. This is a challenging and exhausting time and all of our lives have been impacted.
Some days it is difficult to remain positive and optimistic, this is when our yoga practice (off the mat) is most valuable. Much of our suffering is related to material and emotional attachments. We have no control over the weather or the actions of others but we can control how we respond to challenges and our own behavior. Take the time to breathe and clear your mind, even if it’s only for a few minutes. When we first center and love ourselves we increase our capacity to help others.

Meaningful Messages Yoga is here to support you and our community. As of Thursday, November 8 we are open for classes. The schedule is slightly revised so please review it on our website and note the following changes:
·      Saturday Active Yoga with Rebecca will now be held from 10:00-11:15am
·      Thursday Morning Rise and Shine Yoga Chi with Mary 9:00-10:15am is temporarily off the schedule
·      Heather will be teaching Wednesday Morning Yoga 9:00-10:15am

We will also be collecting clothing, gift cards, and food to donate to the Visitation Church so these items can be distributed in Brick and surrounding areas.

Opportunity

September brings new opportunities to the studio! This month two exceptional yoga teachers, Lee Helle and Heather Roessler, have offered to share classes with the community at MM Yoga.

Lee will be teaching a Dharma Mittra Class Sunday, Sept 16 9:00-10:15am
Lee was first introduced to Bhakti yoga about 6 years ago in California. Once returning home, he jumped into taking many diffrent yoga classes. But Lee didn't connect back to what he felt in California and stop practicing asanas (physical postures) for some time. However, Bhakti was always in his Heart. About a year and a half ago, Lee went to his first Dharma Yoga class and found the devotional asana practice he was searching for. With his first step foot in the NYC Dharma Temple, he felt at home and wanted to take Dharma Mittra as his Guru and pass on his teachings of yoga.
Dharma Mittra's Shiva Namaskar vinyasa, provides a stairway to bliss that reintergrates the continuous flow of prana (cosmic energy) through the spinal columm so that it emanates deep into all areas of the physical, metabolic, intuitive, and bliss body. Class will begin with some Harmonium and chanting, it will then move into the asanas finishing with a deep yoga nidra, pranayama and meditation.

Heather's class will be held on Friday, September 21 6:00-7:30pm
Heather experienced teacher training at the White Lotus Foundation in Santa Barbara, CA. She loves the physical practice of yoga and all of the benefits that it brings to the body, mind, and spirit. She loves to share the joy of practicing meditative movement with her students.
Heather's class is an all-levels Vinyasa yoga style. During this class, we will connect our breath to our body as we move through the asana series that can be tailored to your personal level of physical fitness.

Both classes will be donation based and open to all levels. All that's needed is a positive attitude! MM Yoga is happy to provide yoga mats and other props for students to borrow.  See you soon! Namaste _/\_

Finding your way back to the mat...

Meaningful Messages Yoga

Throughout life’s shifts and transitions, we can become disconnected from our yoga practice. It’s ok that this drift happens; accept that is part of the journey and let go of any guilt, disappointment or negativity that you may have about it.  Remind yourself why you started practicing yoga and how good it makes you feel.

Practicing yoga is an artful science that unites our mind, body and spirit offering holistic benefits and improved well-being. In Yoga, we learn to breath properly and relax, which helps us manage stress and develop healthy techniques to cope with the complexities of life. A regular practice can also support memory and cognitive functions, improve concentration, and lead to better moods and sleep. Physically, yoga asanas (physical postures) can increase flexibility, improve balance and coordination, strengthen the body’s core, boost lymphatic health, promote detoxification, and can help lower blood pressure and improve circulation. Moreover, studies have found that individuals who suffer from chronic or debilitating diseases such as multiple sclerosis, asthma, fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel syndrome, migraines, scoliosis, and back pain, have experienced positive results while maintaining a regular yoga practice. On a spiritual level yoga brings us closer to our true Self through meditation. By learning to concentrate, withdraw from the senses, and meditate can deepen our connection to the infinite good that exists in all beings and unite with the positive vibrations of universal energy.

Guide yourself with ease back into a practice. It’s all about balance. Maybe start by taking 10 minutes when you get up or before you go to sleep to focus on breathing and clear your mind. Or set a day to come back to the studio for a class. Your presence is missed, and it will be rejuvenating to flow back into yoga postures. Most importantly, honor yourself always with love and kindness.

I look forward to seeing you soon….
We are one. Namaste,
Rebecca/Shankari
